March WTS Reading Group – Designing your life: How to build a well-lived, joyful life
We hope you’ll join us for our next WTS Reading Group, as we explore ideas presented in Designing your life: How to build a well-lived, joyful life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. This book based on the authors’ popular course at Stanford University encourages a ‘design thinking’ approach to creating a fulfilling and meaningful career and life. Through science of innovation principles like ‘finding the right problem,’ ‘prototyping, and ‘failure immunity,’ the authors demonstrate how the same ideas used in creatively developing technology, products, and spaces can be successfully applied to our personal and professional lives.
Several articles and other resources that present these ideas will be provided in advance, including:

  • Designing your life: How to build a well-lived, joyful life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans
  • “Want to find fulfillment at last? Think like a designer,” by Steven Kurutz for The New York Times (2016).
  • “Forget resolutions. Try these 7 ways to design your life,” by Laura Shin for Forbes (2016)
  • “Designing your best life,” a presentation by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans at the Chicago Ideas Week (2016)
  • “An exercise Stanford professors developed  to map out how your life will unfold removes the agony from major decisions,” by Shana Lebowitz for Business Insider (2017)
  • “How Silicon Valley can help you in getting unstuck,” by Shankar Vedantam for NPR’s Hidden Brain podcast

When: Thursday, March 2nd 12 to 1PM
Where: Norton Building conference room, 801 2nd Ave between Marion/Columbia, 2nd floor (downtown Seattle)
There is no cost for attendance. Coffee and light snacks will be provided.
Please RSVP to Kara Luckey (kara.luckey@gmail.com) by Monday, February 27th if you plan to attend. Please also let Kara know if you cannot attend the March meeting, but are interested in learning more about future Reading Groups.
