Take a walk on the Bay Bridge Trail with the WTS Student and Younger Members Group and learn about how the East Span Project came to fruition. Mike Davis, Ivy Edmonds-Hess, and Brady Nadell will discuss the planning, environmental analysis, and design of the East Span throughout the project lifecycle, including:
-
The decision leading to replacement, and not retrofit, of the East Span;
-
How alternatives were developed;
-
How different interests (rail/bikes on bridge) participated in the project development process;
-
Innovative methods to protect habitat and wildlife;
-
Design and construction challenges of the self-anchored suspension span; and
-
The dismantling approach.
