ASCE 2018 Younger Member Panel Event

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

2018 Younger Member Panel Event When: Wednesday, March 7th – Noon Where: VDOT Central Office – 1401 E Broad Street, Richmond VA 23219 Price: $10, Jimmy Johns lunch will be included

On Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 12 PM, the Richmond Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is holding a Younger Member Panel event. The event will take place in the VDOT conference rooms in downtown Richmond. Targeted towards our members under 35 years of age, the event is intended to provide an opportunity for younger engineers to ask questions to senior level engineers regarding their career in Civil Engineering.

We intend to have each panelist discuss their background, work/life balance, steps they’ve made in their career paths (and why they made them), and any advice they have to offer. We currently have four panelists participating in the event, who are:

  • Virginia J. Epperly, Senior Engineer in the Design Section of the VDOT Structure and Bridge Division, has over 20 years of experience in both private and public sector design.  Virginia has worked on various highway, light rail, freight, and pedestrian bridges and is also responsible for oversight of Term Contracts, involvement in the procurement process for Design Build projects, and often is involved in specialized projects.  Virginia was also a founding member of the Central Virginia Chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS CVC) and has served on several board positions including WTS President from 2013 to 2015.
  • Ashley Lickliter, Vice President at Kimley-Horn and Associates, has 17 years of experience in the transportation industry. Ashley manages transportation operations, transit, and ITS projects. She has successfully led projects of all sizes and complexity across the Commonwealth, ranging from small traffic impact studies and signal designs to on-call, multidiscipline engineering contracts. Ashley is passionate about advancing multimodal travel and feels honored to be a part of the GRTC BRT project team bringing high speed transit to the Richmond Metro area.
  • Bryan Stevenson, Senior Project Delivery Engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Alternative Project Delivery Division, is responsible for the management of Design-Build project procurements. Since starting in 2013, Bryan has managed the procurement of projects with a combined contract value of $250 million.  Prior to joining VDOT, Bryan spent 17 years in the private sector consulting as an engineer and project manager. He has worked on a variety of projects throughout Virginia including roadway design and civil site design on industrial, institutional, subdivisions, multifamily, commercial and office projects.  Bryan has been involved in several professional and trade organizations, notably serving as ASCE Richmond Branch President among other positions.
  • Randy Wirt, Vice President with ECS Mid-Atlantic and the Director of Engineering for ECS’ Special Projects Group in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  Randy has worked for  local/regional consulting firms with close to 20 years of practical engineering and management experience.  In this role, Randy manages geotechnical programs on large, complex projects requiring multiple services lines, provides technical guidance on regional projects related to geotechnical and civil engineering design and construction, and ensures quality control support on technical deliverables to regional and local clients.  Among involvement with several professional societies, Randy is a Past President of the ASCE Richmond Branch and currently serves as Past President and Director for ASCE Virginia Section.

The event is planned to last approximately 1 hour. After a brief introduction for each panelist (lasting approximately 10 minutes), a Q & A will follow. We plan to have 4-5 general questions that will then be followed by a floor open to specific questions from the audience.

PDH’s are planned to be offered for the event.
