Transportation Milestones in Northern Virginia

Join WTS-DC for a panel discussion on recent transportation milestones and current hot topics in Northern Virginia. The discussion will feature Monica Backmon, Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) and Kate Mattice, Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Transit Commission (NVTC). The panel will be moderated by Sophie Guiny, WTS-DC Chapter President and Managing Principal, InfraStrategies.
Monica Backmon is the Chief Executive Officer of NVTA and has led NVTA since May 2014. Bringing more than 20 years of public and private sector transportation experience, Ms. Backmon oversees the region’s long-range planning, prioritization, and funding of regionally significant projects bringing multimodal transportation solutions to Northern Virginia. She was named WTS-DC’s Woman of the Year in 2022.
Kate Mattice is the Executive Director of the NVTC, a position she has held since 2017. In this capacity, Ms. Mattice leads a team of program, data, and financial managers responsible for more than $350 million/year in state, federal, and toll revenue funding for transit services that support Northern Virginia. She joined NVTC in 2014 as director of transit programs and policy following 13 years with the Office of Budget and Policy at the Federal Transit Administration.
