WTS-DC Wins Diversity Award and Achieves Gold in the Circle of Excellence

WTS-DC President Adrienne Ameel (Kimley-Horn), Immediate Past-President Avital Barnea (U.S. DOT), and Vice President Neela Babu (WSP) attended the 2018 WTS-International Annual Conference in San Diego where they accepted the 2018 Gold Chapter award. Gold is the highest level of standing for a chapter to achieve each year.


2018 Transportation YOU DC Youth Summit Concludes

The WTS Transportation YOU DC Youth Summit was held in Washington, DC from June 20th-June 24th. This annual conference is designed to introduce, inspire, and guide young women from across the country toward a college future in STEM studies (science, technology, engineering, and math) and a career in the transportation industry.

WTS-DC's Transportation YOU Committee will be hosting a speed mentoring event with girls from the 9th and 10th grades at Dunbar High School on Tuesday, May 16 from 1-3 p.m.


WTS-DC Member Survey Results

From February 16-March 10, 2017, WTS-DC conducted a general membership survey in order to learn what is most important to our dues-paying members. In honor of WTS-DC's 40th Anniversary, we developed 40 short questions to help improve our content and operations, and make sure we are providing the most value to our membership. The survey yielded a 21% response rate, with responses from 62 of our 298 base members. Read the aggregate, anonymous results from the survey.

Can a bicycle be an agent of change? In celebration of bicycle month, the National Museum of Women in the Arts hosts a Suffragist Social Ride around downtown D.C. The day features conversations on the intersection of bikes with the women’s liberation movement and a screening of 'Wadjda', a film about a ten-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who dreams of owning a green bicycle.​

National Safety Council to Recognize Women Leaders in Safety

The National Safety Council is accepting nominations for its inaugural Marion Martin Recognition Award, presented to women who have advanced safety and broken down traditional gender barriers within the safety field.


Nominations Open for $8,000 C3E Awards for Mid-Career Women's Leadership in Clean Energy

The 2016 C3E Awards will honor mid-career leadership and achievement in eight categories: Advocacy, Business, Education, Entrepreneurship, Government, International, Law & Finance, and Research. Each winner will receive an $8,000 prize and national recognition at the 2016 C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium, to be held at Stanford University in late May. Nominators of the winners will also be invited to attend.

Call for Student Posters: Transportation for Sustainability – An International Conference

The Conference Planning Committee is now re-opening the call for Student Posters. The 15 best poster proposals will be accepted for display and discussion at the poster session. WTS-DC Holds Annual Legislative Forum

On October 18, the WTS-DC Chapter convened a panel of three Congressional staffers to discuss the most recent federal surface transportation bill – the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) – and the challenges of its implementation and provisions that may be addressed during the next reauthorization.

President Barack Obama signed into law HR 4348, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21), providing states and communities with two years of steady funding to build the roads, bridges and transit systems they need.

On Friday, July 6, in the late afternoon, President Obama will sign HR 4348, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21), which will create jobs, strengthen our transportation system and grow our economy. The bill provides states and communities with two years of steady funding to build the roads, bridges and transit systems they need. WTS, being recognized as a leader in the industry, has been invited by the White House to be in attendance at the signing of HR 4348.
