Position Description:

AvMet Applications, Inc. (AvMet), is recruiting for an Associate Scientist who is self-motivated and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude to join our team of scientists, engineers, and researchers. The ability to work in a fast-paced, professional environment while managing multiple competing tasks is required. In addition, strong problem- solving and analytical skills are needed to support a variety of analysis tasks. AvMet’s work domain ranges from program management support to large-scale data manipulation, modeling, and analysis.

The successful candidate will be part of a team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NextGen Aviation Weather Division in developing and deploying the Next Generation Air Traffic System (NextGen). The candidate will provide meeting support to FAA personnel, including organizing meeting logistics, attending meetings, preparing meeting minutes and reports, coordinating communication among attendees, and maintaining working documents.

In addition, the candidate will conduct analysis of FAA and National Weather Service (NWS) policies, programs, systems, and forecast capabilities. Frequent duties and responsibilities include developing briefings/presentations, preparing project plans and schedules, conducting regulatory, policy, and financial research related to aviation weather and aviation safety, and writing/editing various reports.

The candidate must be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and convey a professional image in client meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.S. degree in a physical science* (from an accredited college or university) and 12 months of relevant professional experience**


B.S. degree in a physical science* (from an accredited college or university) and 3 years of relevant professional experience**

Experience providing meeting support, including developing agendas, setting up and operating projection equipment, utilizing virtual meeting applications (e.g., WebEx) taking notes, writing meeting minutes, and tracking action items

Experience researching, writing, and editing reports and papers

Experience developing briefings/presentations for a variety of audiences

Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis

Interest in and/or knowledge of aviation

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Flexibility in managing competing priorities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook)

Desirable Qualifications:

Economic Analyst, Smart Growth America

Smart Growth America seeks a skilled, experienced Economic Analyst with 2 to 6 years of experience to conduct technical and quantitative analyses regarding a wide variety of issues associated with the built environment and transportation, including economics, housing, real estate development, social equity, and the environment. The Analyst will report to Smart Growth America’s Vice President for Economic Development, and work across a number of SGA programs, including the National TOD Technical Assistance Program, the Economic Development program, and other transportation and community technical assistance programs.

Position description

An ideal candidate will have a quantitative mindset with exceptional data analysis skills, and background and experience applying this to policy research, along with a dedication to achieving smarter growth. This position will provide evidence-based advice, building on leading-edge research, to policy makers across the country about how and why to build sustainable communities. It will support SGA’s work providing technical assistance in economic development and community revitalization.

Professional qualifications

A successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in urban planning issues, and care about changing America’s built environment. Candidates should have the confidence and ability to independently design, manage, and conduct multiple research assignments with minimal supervision, while working in a collaborative environment. Candidate should have 2 to 6 years of related experience; a graduate degree in urban planning, economics, real estate, or geography would be ideal. Most importantly, candidates should have a quantitative mindset with exceptional data analysis skills, including the following specific skills:

Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS.

Familiarity with descriptive and inferential statistics (esp. regression analysis), and with statistical packages (SPSS, Stata, R). Ability to apply statistics to inform overall analysis and policy recommendations.

Ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of data to the most salient points. Familiarity and ability to use key data sets, including familiarity with U.S. Census data, as well as various transportation statistics from US DOT (Bureau of Transportation Statistics), state, local, and MPO data sets. Ability to find key data sets, download and process the data, and prepare data for analysis. Ability to interpret and assess trends in large data sets.

Ability to use MS Excel for moderate to advanced data analysis (pivot tables, macros, moderate-to-advanced Excel functions).

Ability to handle large data sets, and automate repetitive tasks. (For example, fluency in either R or Python would be a means of accomplishing this.) Familiarity with MS Access, databases, and SQL highly desirable.

Ability to explain the results of technical analysis, both orally and in writing, to less technically-trained audiences.

Detail-oriented and motivated to be accurate, with strong writing skills.

Ability to prioritize and efficiently deal with multiple assignments; a “self-starter”, capable of learning on the job when necessary, ability to work in teams.

Director, MOD Alliance, ITS America 

The Director of the Mobility on Demand Alliance will lead the creation, strategic direction and activities of the ITS America Mobility on Demand Alliance (MODA). The MODA will promote an innovative, user-focused approach to transportation that leverages emerging mobility services, integrated transit networks and operations, real-time data, connected travelers, and cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to allow for a more traveler-centric, transportation system- of-systems approach, providing improved mobility options to all travelers and users of the system in an efficient and safe manner. This position will be an integral member of the public policy team in supporting the advocacy objectives of the Association.

Legislative Representative, American Public Transportation Association


The key responsibility of this job is to assist APTA in communicating the public transit industry's positions on federal legislative issues to APTA members, outside interests, Members of Congress, the Executive Branch and the public. Individual reports directly to the Senior Director, Government Affairs. 


Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limit¬ed to the following:

1) Communicating in writing and through personal contacts APTA positions on legislative issues to Members of Congress, Congressional committees, the Executive Branch and others. Legislative Representative will focus on outreach to staff for “rank-and-file” Members of Congress;

2) Working in a team setting to develop and execute strategies to advance APTA’s legislative priorities;

3) Preparing speeches to assist APTA officers and executive staff in communicating the public transit industry’s views on federal legislative and government affairs issues;

4) Preparing statements on matters of interest to the transit industry, primarily on government affairs issues;

5) Supporting the Senior Director and Senior Legislative Representatives in the execution of related programs directed at building public awareness and support for public trans¬portation and support for APTA policies;

6) Assisting, when appropriate, in preparing Congressional testimony on topics of interest to the public transit industry;

7) Attending meetings, media briefings, or hearings as assigned and interpreting these events for the APTA membership through written and oral communication;

Legislative Representative will have a minimum of two years of lobbying experience with a trade association, public transit agency, corporation or consulting lobbying firm, or an equivalent level of experience in a Legislative staff position in a congressional office. A Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Public Policy, Public Administration or similar field is required. A Master’s degree in a related field is considered a plus.  Knowledge of federal transit policies and programs, major issues and priorities in public transportation, and the federal legislative process, including authorization and appropriations issues, is required. The Smart Mobility Program Manager performs highly responsible administrative and professional work in directing the day-to-day activities and implementation of the Smart Mobility Program. 
The employee in this class is responsible for coordinating of a number of smart mobility programs across the City, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects, Adaptive Traffic Signals, and Transit Signal & Emergency Vehicle Priority systems. The employee will work closely with the Department of Information Technology to integrate data from Smart Mobility with other City functions.
The Program Manager is responsible for collaborating with departments across the city as well as regional and private partners to implement and ensure the success of this program.

Transportation Specialist, Office of the Secretary of Transportation

DigitaliBiz, Inc. is in search of a Transportation Specialist.  The Transportation Specialist will serve as an Associate Project Development Lead in support of the senior level Project Leads at The Build America Bureau, Office of the Secretary of Transportation.  The purpose of this work is to provide authoritative information, analyses and evaluations in support of the effectiveness of The Build America Bureau and the Office of Outreach and Project Development.  This program’s outreach, development and education of funding and project activities requires development of strategies to encourage the use of Departmental programs.  
The Transportation Specialist will perform program outreach, development and education of funding and project activities, and will  develop  strategies to encourage the use of Departmental programs ensuring stakeholders are familiar with all of the programs available.   The Transportation Specialist will market programs and develop a culture of customer service by establishing the presence of The Build America Bureau with project sponsors that are both public and private organizations.  
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct outreach and development of major transportation infrastructure project proposals.  
Develop internal and external outreach materials, including presentations, Microsoft Office products, speeches and other items to develop the program outreach of The Build America Bureau.
