Women in Politics: Setting the Agenda

05:30 PM - 07:30 PM Pacific Standard Time

WTS San Francisco Bay Area is pleased to showcase women in our community who are in office and changing the political agenda. The “Women in Politics: Setting the Agenda” program features some dynamic personalities who have gotten on the ballot and successfully transitioned into the political sector.

Women in Politics: Setting the Agenda

“In the modern world, women’s empowerment is not merely a goal, but a cornerstone of democratic growth. This is because women raise issues that others overlook, devote energy to projects that others ignore, reach out to constituencies that others neglect, and help societies move forward together.”

—Madeleine Albright

Few would disagree that now, more than ever, is the time for women to take their rightful place in leadership and own a fair share of the political power.

A healthier and more effective representation of what women bring to the table is more essential than ever for the future of effective leadership at all levels. As more women reach leadership within political parties there is an opportunity to prioritize issues such as health care, education, economic stability, professional mobility and safety that impact the daily lives of citizens.

However, we have seen a reversal of the trends for women at higher levels; reflecting the glass ceiling syndrome. Women make up 51% of the population but are dramatically underrepresented in political leadership where women are 19% of Congress, 24% of state legislators, 12% of governors and 18 % of mayors. What's keeping women out of office?

WTS is pleased to showcase women in our community who are in office and changing the political agenda. The “Women in Politics: Setting the Agenda” program features some dynamic personalities who have gotten on the ballot and successfully transitioned in to the political sector.

Join us for this opportunity to bring together the SF Bay Area transportation community committed to being vocal advocates of advancing women everywhere with panelists who have figured out how women make a difference in setting the public policy agenda right here in the Bay Area.

These ladies will provide insight into their personal journeys to political stages and describe what they see as critical in today’s environment.

We invite you to spend an evening exchanging ideas, strengthe ning your solve to advance women’s roles in politics and learning how to be a more effective and engaged citizen.
