Call for WTS Scholarship Applicants!

WTS Scholarship information for 2016 will be posted in September, with applications due in October.

Available scholarships awarded each year:

WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in transportation or a related field.

Available scholarships:

  • Transportation YOU Scholarship for High School Girls ($1,000)
  • Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship ($3,500)
  • Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($3,500)
  • Leadership Legacy Scholarship for Graduates ($3,500)
  • Gail Achterman Leadership Scholarship for Graduate or Undergraduate (amount varies)

The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation career goals; leadership, especially related to transportation; academic record; transportation-related activities or job skills; writing skills; and letters of recommendation.  Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.  Applicants are allowed to apply for more than one scholarship.

Minimum applicant criteria for all scholarships:

  • Open to all women
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Currently attending a college or university in Oregon or Southwest Washington, or a current resident of Oregon or Southwest Washington if applying for the Transportation YOU scholarship
  • Currently enrolled in or accepted to an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a transportation-related field such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, communications, operations, or logistics
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • Not previously awarded a WTS scholarship at the same level (Transportation YOU winners can later apply at Undergraduate and Graduate Levels;Undergraduate winners may later apply at Graduate Level)
  • Graduate winners are not eligible to apply again
