Applications Now Being Accepted for 2019-20 Scholarships

WTS (Women’s Transportation Seminar) fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in transportation or a related field.

Applications are now being accepted for the following scholarships:
Minimum applicant criteria for all scholarships:
  • Open to all women
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher, if applicable
  • Currently attending a junior college, trade school, apprenticeship program, college or university in Oregon or Southwest Washington and enrolled in a degree or trade school program in a transportation-related field such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, communications, operations, construction or logistics. Students must be enrolled at the time the scholarship is awarded (December 2019).
  • Shelley Holly Transportation YOU Scholarship: Current high school senior in Oregon or Southwest Washington
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • Not previously awarded a WTS scholarship at the same level:
         Shelley Holly Transportation YOU winners can later apply at Undergraduate and Graduate   Levels;
         Undergraduate winners may later apply at Graduate Level;
         Graduate winners are not eligible to apply again.

The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation career goals; leadership, especially related to transportation, equity and community; academic record; transportation-related activities or job skills; lived experiences; personal statement and letters of recommendation. In addition, individual circumstances are also considered as part of the assessment of each application:

- Contribution to the diversity of the student body or transportation sector, including but not limited to culture, gender and gender orientation, age, economic background, race and language

- Evidence of overcoming social, economic, or physical barriers to academic achievement

First generation students, students of color, and those representing diverse transportation interests are encouraged to apply.  Applicants may apply for more than one scholarship.
