December Volunteer Spotlight: Scholarship Committee

For December, we want to highlight the WTS Portland Scholarship committee. Their efforts are concentrated in the fall, and they have worked together to review some of our chapter policies about scholarships, get the word out to attract applicants, and consider the impressive applicants and make decision about recipients. This year the committee included Lidwien Rahman, a former scholarship chair; Heidi Beierle, Kate Lyman, and Rae Leigh Stark.

October 2015 Volunteer Spotlight: Alexis Gabriel and Brenda Martin

This special volunteer thank you goes to Alexis Gabriel (pictured top) and Brenda Martin (pictured bottom), who have served as the WTS Portland membership committee for the last year.


September 2015 Volunteer Spotlight: Cara Belcher

Cara Belcher is a native of St. Helens, Oregon. She is a strong, quiet behind-the-scenes volunteer with WTS Portland chapter, but her many contributions are significant and critical to WTS’ success as an organization.


June 2015 Volunteer Spotlight: Dee Hidalgo

Dee Hidalgo has been an active member of the WTS Portland Chapter for the last four years and has been an active luncheon volunteer. In 2011, Dee was accepted into the first WTS leadership program known as LEAP (Leadership for Emerging and Advancing Professionals), a two-day workshop developed to further develop personal and professional development.


Spring Awards Event - Thank you!

Thank you to all of our members and friends who attended the Spring Awards Event last week. We had 102 people in attendance to help celebrate our award winners. In addition, we raised around $1,700 for the Gail Achterman Scholarship! If you would still like to donate, please click here. May 2015 Volunteer Spotlight: Katie Bell

Katie is a Traffic Investigator with the ODOT Region 1 Traffic Unit. She has been a WTS member for about three years and has been an active volunteer with the WTS Professional Development Committee for most of that time. Most recently, she helped to organize the “Cost of Congestion” event in April – a partnered event with the Portland Freight Committee.


April Volunteer Spotlight: Colleen Smith

Colleen Smith is a Roadway Designer with FHWA Western Federal Lands Highway Division. Colleen grew up in Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she received a BS in Civil Engineering. During and after college she worked for a small private land development company in Austin before joining the Federal Highway Administration. After joining FHWA, Colleen moved to North Dakota five years ago to begin a rotational program.


WTS Launches the Northwest Region Council & We Need Your Help!

The newly formed WTS Northwest Regional Council includes many of the nation’s most beautiful places – Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Nevada. The focus of the Regional Council is to: help bolster existing chapters where more members and volunteers are needed to sustain the WTS vision.


March Volunteer Spotlight: Heidi Beierle

Heidi Beierle, a project planner with Metro, has dedicated a tremendous amount of time volunteering as this year’s super facilitator for WTS Portland’s Transportation YOU Program. As the super facilitator, Heidi was the constant face for the students for the Winter Session with Cesar Chavez School in North Portland.
