Innovative Transportation Solution Awards Nominations - Now Open! Submit by October 28, 2019

The WTS Portland Chapter takes great pride in recognizing women who have made outstanding achievements. These awards honor our colleagues in the transportation field that have made incredible contributions to the WTS mission, regional transportation projects, programs and policies and to the industry by creating new opportunities and advancing the careers of women in transportation.

Each year at the annual awards dinners, the WTS Portland Chapter honors winners of the following awards:

Winter Award

Innovative Transportation Solution (Accepting nominations now)

  • Eligible projects must have had a successful outcome, defined as a project open for use, a Record of Decision for an EIS, or a final recommendation to a decision-making body for a study project 
  • Supports one or more key community values, such as improved accessibility to key services, employment or other opportunities
  • Overcame obstacles to provide a service or build a project
  • Made a difference in the lives of its users
  • Featured multi-modal collaboration, public/private partnerships or unique design or funding processes
  • Projects with female project managers. 


Nominations for the Spring Awards will be due in the spring. Nomination forms will be posted online and distributed via the WTS weekly email.

Spring Awards

Woman of the Year

 

  • Leader in transportation and has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry
  • Directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field
  • Advanced the reputation and credibility of women in transportation through her career advancements and support of women in the industry.

Member of the Year

 

  • Showed extraordinary commitment to the goals and growth of WTS.
  • Promoted the reputation of WTS within the transportation industry.
  • Worked effectively to strengthen communication between local and international WTS levels or between chapters.
  • Did an outstanding job of revitalizing or expanding a chapter or any of its functions.

Employer of the Year

 

  • Enhanced the transportation industry through its commitment to excellence and quality in its services or products.
  • Outstanding record of affirmative action in hiring and promoting at all employment levels.
  • Supports continuing education of its employees through professional education, professional organizations and/or professional development opportunities.
  • Encourages women students to enter the transportation field by providing internship opportunities.
  • Has supported WTS.

Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership

 

  • An individual or organization that has exhibited outstanding and extraordinary efforts or initiative(s) in facilitating opportunities for women and minorities.
  • Contributed significantly to promoting diversity, inclusion and multi-cultural awareness within their organization, the transportation industry or in a project or activity that supports the goals and mission of WTS.

New Voice

 

  • Has been out of school and in a career track for fewer than 5 years.
  • Shows promise in making a contribution to the transportation industry.
  • Has been an active member of the WTS Portland Chapter.

Secretary Ray LaHood

 

  • A man who is a leader in transportation.
  • Has directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation industry.
