Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Update

11:30 AM - 01:30 PM Eastern Standard Time

Pete Vega, FDOT District Two ITS Engineer, will provide an update on ITS projects including the construction of the state-of-the-art Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC), our transportation technology hub for the region.

Learn how BlueTOAD captures travel data instead of flies, wind sensors talk to NOAA satellites to keep bridges safe and new-to-us technologies such as managed lanes, ramp metering and hard shoulder running will provide a cost-efficient way to increase the capacity and reliability of our roadways.

Pete will also brief us on expanding ITS to arterials and transit signal priority to enhance bus travel.  We’re fortunate to have Pete as the ITS guru for our region, so please take this opportunity to ask all your transportation technology questions.

A graduate of the University of South Florida, Pete started his engineering career with Dow Chemical.  He then joined the Florida Department of Transportation and worked in the Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Central Office Maintenance divisions.   During this time he earned his Florida Professional Engineer’s license and MBA at the University of North Florida.

Pete was hired to manage the ITS Office in 2002.  He has managed eight interstate and approximately 15 arterial ITS projects, and served as a Chairperson with ITS Florida and the FDOT Change Management Board.
