Congratulations to VHB as National Employer of the Year

WTS International has honored VHB with the Employer of the Year award, recognizing the engineering, planning, and environmental science firm’s commitment to the advancement of women in the transportation industry.

“We are honored to be recognized as the WTS International Employer of the Year,” stated Nancy Barker, VHB’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager. “At VHB, we honor diversity and the advancement of women in the transportation industry. We are proud of the team that we are, and the work that we do—and we understand that attracting and retaining a diverse workforce adds rich perspective to both our organization and the communities we work in.”

In 2017, VHB welcomed 360 new employees to the team, 43% of whom were women. Women serve in all levels of leadership at VHB, including the firm’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Regional Management. From leading internal efforts for career progression to managing transportation projects that shape the communities we live in, VHB’s women in leadership are influencing the cultural progression of the organization, while serving as innovative thought leaders and stewards to the cities and towns around us.

A proud sponsor of WTS since the company’s founding, VHB actively supports and participates in the advancement of women in transportationthrough sponsorship of student scholarships, positions on WTS Boards of Directors, chairing and supporting committees, participating and sponsoring WTS events, and sharing the benefits of involvement with WTS at VHB and throughout the industry.

“Supporting WTS gives VHB employees the opportunity to become connected to their communities, and grow professionally,” explained Taruna Tayal, VHB’s Regional Applied Technology Manager and active WTS Triangle member. “The organization provides an outlet for future generations of female engineers, scientists, and planners to become excited about their future careers.”

VHB has supported events across WTS chapters, including active involvement in the WTS NC Triangle Chapter’s Transportation YOU mentor program, inspiring high school students to seek a career in transportation. In addition to being recognized as WTS Rhode Island’s 2018 Employer of the Year, VHB’s additional support includes the sponsorship of the WTS Boston new public art installation to celebrate the contributions, diversity, and creativity that women bring to the transportation industry, as well as a diamond Sponsorship of 2017 WTS Greater New York Chapter’s Fall Dinner Program, where VHB’s Lisa DiTaranti presented the Sandra Forte Memorial Membership Award for Emerging Professionals. In addition, six VHB transportation thought leaders presented at the WTS Conference in New York in 2017.

VHB is a workplace where support for women goes well beyond numbers and the metrics. With a culture of inclusion and an emphasis on support for all employees, the value that each VHB team member brings is respected, creating a space where all women truly thrive and support each other, no matter the task and no matter the challenge. This philosophy is why VHB has been recognized as WTS International’s Employer of the Year for 2018.VHB1At a Transportation YOU event.
