Congratulations to our 2019 Local Scholarship Winners

 

The NC Triangle Chapter recently announced the recipients of its annual scholarship program. The chapter will present the awards to four women pursuing careers in transportation-related fields at its annual foundation luncheon in February. These recipients will also be submitted to the WTS International organization for consideration of a national scholarship.

 

Nikole Sullivan – Sharon Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship

Ms. Sullivan is an undergraduate at North Carolina A&T State University, studying Supply Chain Management. Through various internships and industry events, she has learned how invaluable understanding transportation logistics are to the success of an organization. After graduation, Ms. Sullivan would like to work at a company to improve their processes and overall quality and eventually open her own company.

 

Kayla Jefferson – Molitoris Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship

Ms. Jefferson is an undergraduate at North Carolina A&T State University, studying Supply Chain Management. Her international experiences with service learning drove her to found Aggies Abroad, a campus organization that promotes study abroad and helps students find funding and resources. After graduation, she hopes to become a project manager or scheduler, eventually applying to business school and becoming a leader in the Supply Chain Management field.

 

Mary Wolfe – Helene M. Overly Graduate Scholarship

Ms. Wolfe is a Ph.D candidate at UNC- Chapel Hill in City and Regional Planning with a concentration in Transportation Planning. She is researching connections between transportation and health and understanding how urban spaces and transportation infrastructure shape health outcomes for the communities who access them. Additionally, Ms. Wolfe is inspiring the next generation of planning professionals as a Teaching Assistant, for which she was awarded the Doctoral Student Excellence in Teaching Award. After graduation, Ms. Wolfe plans to continue teaching and researching while working with policy makers and practitioners to shape innovative mobility policies.

 

Tory Gible – WTS Leadership Legacy Graduate Scholarship

Ms. Gibler is a Master’s degree candidate at UNC- Chapel Hill in City and Regional Planning with a concentration in Transportation Planning. A passionate advocate on accessibility in transportation, she actively promotes accessibility and multimodal transportation as a board member of the Raleigh bicycle advocacy group, Oaks for Spokes, and as the Graduate Chair of the Transportation Specialization within UNC’s Department City and Regional Planning. After graduation, Ms. Gibler hopes to work for an consulting firm that uses inclusive, innovative solutions to address the next generation of transportation challenges.
