Visit to Down Street Underground

04:00 PM - 05:30 PM GMT Standard Time

Down_Street_Underground_Pic_2

We are delighted to be able to invite members to this exclusive tour of the now disused Down Street Station which opened in 1907.

After closing its doors to the public in 1932, the station found new life as a wartime bunker for the government and was used by Winston Churchill and his war cabinet until the Cabinet War Rooms in Whitehall were ready for use. It was also the shelter where the Railway Executive kept the trains running during the war and evidence of its occupation still remains. The station is used today purely as an emergency exit from the underground and is not open to the public.

As there are no operating lifts at the station there will be an extensive number of stairs to climb.

There are just 12 places available and these will be offered on a first come basis so you are advised to register as soon as possible.
