Karen Spiegel has left an indelible mark in transportation – both to the industry as a whole and as a tremendous role model for women.  Karen joined the Corona City Council in 2002. She is serving her third term as Mayor, first in 2006 and then in 2010. Karen sits on numerous transportation organizations and has a strong commitment to improving mobility in the Inland Empire.

One project that Karen is very proud of is the SR-91 Corridor Improvement Project. This project will improve one of the most congested corridors in southern California. Her tireless advocacy for this $1.3 billion dollar project has culminated this past year for the project to move into the construction phase.

2013 Member of the Year: Kay Toliver, CHJ Associates – enjoy her video at this link

Kay Toliver has been an unparalleled source of support for WTS, even before the Inland Empire Chapter’s inception. Her assistance to the chapter, her vision and enthusiasm, are a few of her many exemplary qualities that has resulted in the Chapter awarding her as the two thousand and thirteen Member of the Year.

Kay works as a Business Development Associate at CHJ Consultants – a California corporation of geotechnical, civil engineers, geologists and environmental assessors, headquartered in Colton.

For over 100 years, Twining has led the transportation industry by providing geotechnical engineering, materials testing laboratory, applied research and construction inspection services. The San Bernardino office is one of five Twining locations in California, providing exceptional quality, reliability and outstanding professional services to meet the changing construction needs of the Inland Empire.

How does this long standing firm maintain its client list and stay abreast of the transportation industry? It is simple – Twining stays involved with WTS and strives for excellence in four key areas: innovation, employing the industry’s best technical personnel, client relationships and integrity.

Innovative Transportation Solution: Caltrans/ I-215 GAP Closure Project – enjoy a video about the project at this link

As the Inland Empire grows and prospers, so will the connectivity between the two counties through I-215 improvements.  The I-215 bi-county high occupancy vehicle gap closure project is underway through an innovative partnership between the construction lead, Caltrans District eight, and local transportation agencies: the Riverside County Transportation Commission and the San Bernardino Associated Governments.

Through the innovative, multi agency partnership, the gap solution to this corridor has moved decades ahead of prior plans to benefit the residents and commuters alike.  The project is expected to be completed in 2016.
