Committees

WTS-GNY is a volunteer organization. All of our programming for members and the broader transportation community would not be possible without the efforts of our committee chairs and volunteers.

If you are interested in getting involved, learn more about our committees and reach out! If you're still not sure where to start, contact the Board SecretaryCurrent volunteer opportunities are featured in latest issue of the Chapter News

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS:

Communications

The WTS-GNY Communications Committee provides members with all of the information they need for what is going on in the Chapter and more broadly in the transportation community through a variety of channels, including email, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and the Chapter’s website. The Committee puts together the monthly Chapter News.

College Outreach

The College Outreach Committee coordinates with local college and student chapters.

Corporate Partners

WTS GNY is able to put on a great variety of programming thanks to the generous support we receive from our corporate partners. The mission of the Corporate Partners Committee is to support these relationships and act as a liaison between the Chapter and our partners.

Glass Ceiling

The Glass Ceiling Committee is charged with documenting gender income differences in the transportation industry in the greater New York area. The committee is currently working on a baseline study for future benchmarking.

Membership

The Membership Committee is a resource for our 600 members. The committee holds brown bag lunches at local transportation agencies, surveys our membership, and organizes two events in the Summer: a Membership Appreciation Event (free for members) and a Member Recruitment Drive.

Mentoring

The Mentoring Committee coordinates our annual Mentoring Program, offering support from experienced mentors, peer networking, and candid conversations with successful transportation leaders in the metropolitan area. The committee selects the mentors and apprentices who participate every year.

NY and NJ Programs

Our Programs Committees organize the bulk of our chapter programming throughout the year. This includes our quarterly dinners, holiday party, professional development, the Learn from a Leader series and coordinating on-site training for the Emerging Women Leaders series.

Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee administers the WTS-GNY Scholarship Program. Learn more about our scholarships here. The committee also offers support for the two annual fundraisers WTS-GNY holds to replenish our scholarship fund - the Annual Gala in the Fall and the Scholarship Wine Tasting Fundraiser in the Spring.

Special Events

The Special Events Committee organizes the chapter’s Annual Gala. Each year at the gala the chapter presents a Woman of the Year award and thanks our members and corporate sponsors at Battery Gardens. WTS-GNY scholarship winners are also recognized at the event, and the silent auction/raffle hosted by the committee kicks off fundraising for the following years' scholarships. The committee also provides support to other committees with their event planning if needed.

Transportation You

The Transportation You Committee coordinates a hands-on, interactive mentoring program that offers young girls ages 13-18 an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers.

Young Professionals

The Young Professionals Committee focuses on programming for young professionals. The group’s annual calendar includes the “Trending Topics” speaker series; a joint American Planning Association (APA) and Young Professionals Transportation (YPT) Trivia night; team participation in a Cardboard Kayak competition; volunteer events; and a holiday happy hour.
