Welcome
For 25 years the WTS Columbus Chapter has provided opportunities for networking, professional development, and leadership for women in all fields of transportation. Our goal is to be relevant and collaborative in addition to being inclusive of all modes and all people.
In 2008 our chapter hosted a variety of events:
v January: Annual Meeting with Matt Dietrich, Executive Director of ORDC, on Public-Private Partnerships
v February: Engineers Week Luncheon (WTS Columbus was the lead organizing group)
v April: Spring Quarterly Meeting with Steve Anderson, President of ILS, on Authentic Leadership
v May: Golf Event at SportsOhio Golf Center
v June: Scholarship Fundraising Event with Silent Auction & Margarita Tasting
v July: Summer Quarterly Tour at the newly-opened Rickenbacker Intermodal Facility
v September: Fall Quarterly Meeting with Deborah Sawyer from EDI International on Diversity
v October: Ohio Transportation Engineer’s Conference – Sponsored a Lunch Meet’n’Greet and Conference Session on Women Leaders in Freight & Logistics
v December: New Member’s Wine Tasting
And some additional activities and new initiatives included:
v Green initiative & creation of a Sustainability Chair
v Public Agency Partnership Program
v CPD offerings at events
v First Chapter Board Retreat
We ended the year at around 100 members and 17 corporate partners, and we raised over $3,300 for our local scholarships.
It was a full year, and we are looking forward to another great year in 2009. We have already held our Annual Meeting in February with Ty Marsh speaking on the 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force. And some of the activities we have planned include the Spring Quarterly Meeting with a speaker from Battelle in April, Golf Event in May, Scholarship Event, Summer Tour Event at a LEED Certified site, and OTEC Session with Women DOT Directors around the country.
In addition, we will be hosting a couple of receptions this year – our Chapter turns 25 this year, so we will be having a reception in the fall to celebrate. Plus, we will be holding a reception for the new Director of ODOT, Jolene Molitoris, on April 20th.
If you are interested in working with us to accomplish even more in 2009, everyone is welcome to sign up for a committee or attend WTS Columbus Board meetings.
