FHWA - Civil Engineer (Highway)

Greenman-Pedersen - Bridge Engineer

GPI is seeking a bridge engineer, who is a self-motivated professional for their bridge engineering department in their Allentown, PA or Mechanicsburg, PA Office. The successful candi�date will be responsible for designing and planning tasks, performing structural analysis, and overseeing the design of various bridge and other related structures. Out Transportation Department provides Bridge, Highway, H&H, and Traffic design/support, as well as Bridge Inspection services to State, Municipal, and private clients throughout Pennsyvania and surrounding regions.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform design and analysis of concrete and steel bridge structures
  • Ensure plans, specifications and cost estimates in accordance with PennDOT criteria and AASHTO guidelines
  • Supervise and mentor other engineers and technicians with respect to design calculations and details
  • Conduct independent design QA/QC and load ratings for bridge structures
  • Investigate design alternatives for both technical & economic impact
  • Ability to work on fast paced design-build projects and pursuits
  • Provide technical guidance and supervisory support, while managing clients and projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required, Master’s Degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience (Pennsylvania Preferred)
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Proficiency in MicroStation/CADD, STAAD, and PennDOT's Structural Design Software Programs
  • PennDOT experience is preferred

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified candidate must have a valid driver’s license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in the English language
  • Ability to write in English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Word documents
  • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Excel documents
  • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Exchange emails with attachments
  • Be able to wear and work using GPI standard PPE, i.e. hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles

Greenman-Pedersen - Senior Highway Engineer

GPI is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer/Transportation Squad Leader for their Allentown, PA or Mechanicsburg, PA Office. The successful candi�date will be responsible for the management of staff for major transportation projects in Pennsylvania, with PennDOT, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Your primary focus will be on highway and multi-disciplined transportation projects. This will include projects such as traditional design-bid-build as well as design build and other delivery methods. As a Squad Leader, responsibilities will also include assisting with project management and client/contractor relationships.

Position Requirements:

  • Management of design teams on complex engineering projects, including traditional design-bid-build and alterna�tive delivery methods
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate highway related activities with transportation engineering projects to ensure that goals and objectives of these projects are accomplished within prescribed time and budget
  • Assist with business development activities including pursuit identification, teaming and capture management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 to 10 years progressive experience in the design, management and implementation of highway/roadway transpor�tation projects in Pennsylvania
  • Must have E.I.T, Licensed Pennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE preferred but not required)
  • Must have demonstrated experience managing design teams with experience utilizing PennDOT’s approved design software packages
  • Knowledge and experience with PennDOT policies, procedures and standards

Susquehanna Civil Inc. - Geotechnical Technician

Susquehanna Civil is seeking a Technician to join our growing Geotechnical Team. The candidate will focus primarily on field work including, but not limited to: subsurface investigation (soil and rock identification), test pit logging, infiltration testing, DCP testing, site reconnaissance, and sub-contractor supervision. Other responsibilities will include assisting with geotechnical reports, which may include data entry, basic CADD work, and minor design work. Candidate must be willing to be cross-trained in multiple engineering disciplines. Candidates should have strong organizational, communication, and people skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment. Being detail oriented and having an emphasis on quality of work are a must. Eligible candidates should possess a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field OR have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in geotechnical design on PennDOT and PA Turnpike projects. The candidate should be a PennDOT Certified Drilling Inspector or have the ability to become certified within 6 months of hire.

PennDOT- 2019 Summer Internships in Cultural Resource Management

PennDOT’s Cultural Resource Management Program anticipates offering internships in cultural resource management and historic preservation at the Central Office in Harrisburg Pa. and in Indiana, Pa. at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Interns will be directly involved in important research on the management, study and stewardship of archaeological sites and historic resources affected by transportation projects. They’ll also be exposed to the full range of job skills and employment opportunities in Cultural Resource Management through formal seminars and rotations in GIS, curation, archaeological field work, project assessment, consulting, environmental review, and National Register evaluation.
 
Our internships, part of the Department’s Engineering, Scientific and Technical Internship Program (ESTI), pay $13.23/hour, and undergraduate or graduate credit may be available through your university department. Preference will be given to applicants with previous exposure to GIS, database management, and archaeological, historical, or historic preservation course work and field experience in the Middle Atlantic region. Excellent communication skills are important. While ESTI applications are open until the end of March, we ask our applicants to submit their applications by the end of January, 2019. Interviews typically are scheduled in February and March.
