WTS-Boston Public Art Project Making Strides

Ellen Harvey, Artist
Frank Monkiewicz Photography www.frankmonkiewicz.com

WTS-Boston has been working tirelessly for many years, in coordination with both MassDOT and the MBTA,towards a new public art installation to celebrate the contributions, diversity and creativity that women bring to the transportation industry.  This installation will be at a Red Line Headhouse at South Station.  Ellen Harvey, world renowned artist, has been commissioned for the WTS-Boston Public Art Project, Women in Movement.  Ellen Harvey is a British-born artist living and working in Brooklyn.  She is a 2016 recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship in the Visual Arts and a graduate of the Whitney Independent Study Program, Harvard University and Yale Law School.  Her work has been exhibited extensively in the U.S. and internationally and was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.  She has completed numerous public commissions; her work has been the subject of several books and she currently has two solo exhibitions in New York.

Being awarded the $100,000 grant from the City of Boston’s Edward Ingersoll Browne Trust Fund helps bring this project one step closer to becoming a reality.  The Public Art project would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of WTS-Boston’s two public art co-chairs, Hyun-A Park, Spy Pond Partners and Lisa Brothers, Nitsch Engineering and the many committee members supporting them including:

  • Jean Mineo, Mineo Consulting (Public Art Consultant)
