On March 10th, the WTS-Boston Diversity Committee hosted its first annual Woman-Owned Small Business Roundtable at Nitsch Engineering in Boston, MA. Judith Nitsch, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Founding Principal of Nitsch Engineering, facilitated the roundtable. Twelve participants attended.

The roundtable, modeled after a similar event held at the 2015 WTS annual conference, brought together local women owners and entrepreneurs to share their perspectives and experiences in growing their businesses. Space for the roundtable was limited to participants meeting a set of criteria, including: being a woman owner of a DBE, WBE, or small business; being in business for at least three (3) years; having no more than forty (40) employees; demonstrating a commitment to WTS and its objectives; and reflecting the diversity of WTS International’s membership in all respects.

During the roundtable, attendees participated in facilitated discussions on three primary topics of interest: biggest challenges in managing a business; business development, marketing, and teaming; and HR-related topics, such as integrating new staff and expanding growth.

Participants expressed interest in continuing the roundtable as a regular forum, either quarterly or bi-annually. This type of event will potentially be offered as a two-hour-long meeting and rotate among attendees’ offices. Participants suggested that topics could be determined in advance and that there could also be opportunities for a “topic of the day” discussion.

The WTS-Boston Diversity Committee looks forward to supporting the Woman-Owned Small Business Roundtable in the future and thanks participants for their time in this inaugural event! If you are interested in joining the group and fit the roundtable criteria, please contact the WTS-Boston Diversity Committee Co-Chairs: Christine Breen and Rachel Strauss.
