WTS-Boston congratulates Massachusetts Port Authority on being the 2018 Employer of the Year!

Massport_Logo

At the Massachusetts Port Authority our mission is to enhance the quality of life of New England residents and protect the freedom to travel safely, securely, efficiently and cost-effectively. Massport strives to always be a good steward by treating colleagues and customers with respect, embracing diversity and minimizing the impact of transportation services on our neighbors and the environment.

We’re expanding Boston’s global reach by increasing the number of nonstop domestic and international flights from Logan Airport. We’re advancing Massachusetts’ working maritime tradition by protecting thousands of good-paying blue-collar jobs connected to the Port of Boston. We care about diversity by making sure our workforce is reflective of our society, and we make diversity an important component in our real estate development. We’re demonstrating our commitment to being a good neighbor to those who live and work near Massport facilities by strengthening our community engagement efforts. Every day, we strive to be a good steward in service of a great Commonwealth.

Massport generates over 18 billion dollars in economic impact to the local economy between Boston Logan, Hanscom Field, Worcester Regional Airport and the Port of Boston.  Logan International Airport served over 38 million passengers last year.

We have high standards to excel in all that we do, and we are a leader among our peers in transportation safety and security, customer service, and environmental management.

Massport is an independent public agency governed by a seven-member Board. Five members are appointed to staggered, seven-year terms by the Governor of Massachusetts. One member is appointed by the Massport Community Advisory Committee and the seventh member is the Secretary of Transportation and serves the Executive Office. When compared to companies across the United States, Massport’s representation of women in board of director positions is above the national average. At Massport, women comprised 42% of the board of director positions compared to 21.2% in S&P 500 Companies.

At Massport, our business is all about connecting. We support and take pride in the employees that make those connections possible every day. Massport currently has 1,297 employees, 708 of which are union employees, 589 are considered administrative employees.

Women are an increased presence in our skilled workforce as well as in positions responsible for providing safety and security to the traveling public. Currently our union workforce is 18% female. Massport makes a conscious effort to recruit women in all fields, particularly in the skilled trade positions and Massport fire rescue and police departments. Women make up 47% of the administrative work force. Women in positions of leadership (internally considered Levels 9 and higher) make up 32% of the work force. Massport currently has six (6) women on the Senior/Executive staff. In addition, four women are Directors, the Chief of Staff and the Assistant Chief of Staff are also female. This includes the Director of L. G. Hanscom Field and the Port Director. Massport proudly has 12 women Deputy Directors plus two women associate Chief Legal Counsels. Three of our Terminal Managers at Logan are also women.

Massport is a long standing supporter of WTS-Boston and WTS-International (WTSI).  Massport proudly has been an executive level sponsor of the Boston Chapter for many years and generously donates the time and materials to produce the sponsor banners that are on display at all monthly luncheons.  Massport has also been designated a PLATINUM level support of the WTS-Boston Public Art project with a $25,000 donation supporting the effort to install a piece of artwork in South Station showcasing women in transportation. Massport also supports employee attendance at events and encourages members to joint committees and serve as part of WTS-Boston leadership.
