WTS-Boston congratulates Kennedy/Jenks Consultants on being selected for the 2017 Employer of the Year Award!

Kennedy/Jenks has earned a reputation as one of the most respected and experienced environmental engineering firms. It is a distinction they bear proudly, because it has evolved from 98 years of engineering excellence. Since their establishment in 1919, the firm’s purpose has been to provide clients with the very best in personalized service, highly-qualified professional staff, and technically advanced and appropriate engineering solutions.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Kennedy/Jenks is an employee-owned, private corporation, with close to 450 employees in 30 offices across the country. The firm has a long established presence and is able to lead and staff projects from Boston to California. Kennedy/Jenks has been ranked in the Top 500 Engineering firms worldwide, since ENR began the ranking process.

Three short years ago, Sean O’Brien, Vice President and National Transportation Director, established an east coast presence in the Boston area with transportation as the major focus. Being a long-time WTS-Boston member and supporter, Sean understood the value that a WTS partnership would bring to the firm, particularly being new to Boston. One of the first initiatives was to commit Kennedy/Jenks as an Executive Level sponsor. While Kennedy/Jenks is not the largest organization locally, they certainly have a strong and unwavering WTS presence. With the hires of Janice Bergeron, 2015 WTS-Boston Woman of the Year, and Lori Chicoyne, Co-Chair for the upcoming 2019 WTS International Conference—two long-time WTS members and leaders within the firm—Kennedy/Jenks quickly became a familiar name within the WTS organization.

Kennedy/Jenks is a proud sponsor and advocate of the Boston’s Women’s Workforce Council, an initiative of Mayor Walsh to close the wage gap in the Commonwealth. The firm encourages and supports professional development, including internal and external educational training, association involvement, and offers tuition and membership reimbursement. Internally, Kennedy/Jenks hosts technical symposiums involving staff throughout the firm. They also offer an Innovation Grant Program and have created a New Professionals Initiative for employees with less than 10 years’ experience.

Kennedy/Jenks supports the hiring and advancement of women. Companywide, 26% of their executive and management level staff are women. They have two women on the firm’s Board of Directors who are very active and visible internally. Specifically on the east coast, 40% of staff is women. Two of these women are Vice Presidents and four others are principals, directors, or national leaders of technical groups or national markets, including ports and airports. Kennedy/Jenks’s commitment to the advancement of women is being led by our new offices in the east. Two of three offices are managed by women because they are outstanding female leaders!
