2018 March Luncheon Seminar Recap

On March 22, 2018, Massport Port Director Lisa Wieland provided WTS-Boston luncheon attendees with an update on the exciting activity in the Port of Boston. As an added bonus, Lisa was introduced by Anne Aylward, Director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. Anne previously served as the Director of the Port of Boston for Massport, and was the first woman elected to chair the American Association of Port Authorities.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is an integrated, multi-modal transportation agency composed of Highway, Rail and Transit, and Aeronautics Divisions, as well as a Registry of Motor Vehicles. The Department of Transportation is led by Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack, who also sits on the Board of the Massachusetts Port Authority. Pollack has been Secretary of Transportation and CEO of MassDOT since 2015.

On December 14, 2017, MassDOT Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack spoke to an audience of over 300 WTS-Boston members and guests. Secretary Pollack spoke enthusiastically about planning for our transportation system, and the importance of preparing plans that lead to action. During the discussion, audience members learned about five kinds of planning that MassDOT is focused on.

2017 WTS International Chapter Leadership Training

Three of WTS-Boston Leadership, Rebecca Williamson, WTS-Boston President from Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs), Kristine Gorman, WTS-Boston Secretary from Jacobs and Colleen Moore, WTS-Boston 2019 WTS International Conference Committee Co-Chair from City Point Partners attended WTS International Chapter Leadership Training in Las Vegas, NV on November 16th and 17th. WTS-Boston is pleased to announce a major milestone in the organizations fund raising efforts to install art at Boston’s South Station with a recent award of $100,000 grant from the City of Boston’s Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund. The WTS-Boston Program for Emerging Professional Women provides up to two annual awards to the WTS-Boston community. Eligible applicants must work in a transportation-related career and not be eligible to receive reimbursement from their employer for WTS membership expenses. Applicants should have no more than 5 years of full-time post-graduate professional experience in the transportation field.

A native of South Boston, Tom Tinlin came to MassDOT in January of 2014 after being the longest serving Commissioner of the Boston Transportation Department in the City's history, under the longest serving Mayor of Boston, Tom Menino. The WTS-Boston May Luncheon took place on May 14th and was organized by the Membership, Diversity, and Programs committees. The event featured guest speaker Joanne G. Linowes, head of Linowes Executive Development Institute, LLC (LXDi). Joanne focused on the three “M’s” to remember when presenting and communicating with others – Mindset, Message, and Mannerisms. The 2015 Boston Chapter Scholarship Program application period is now open and will run until October 27, 2014. Local scholarship winners are announced in December and receive recognition at the June Scholarships & Awards Dinner. WTS Foundation national scholarship winners are announced in February and receive recognition at the Scholarship Dinner at the Annual Conference in Chicago on May 21, 2015.
