WTS-Boston Summer Tour

12:30 PM - 02:30 PM Eastern Standard Time

Future Plans for DCR and a Tour of the North Bank Bridge Project Connecting East Cambridge to City Square in Charlestown along the Charles River Waterfront

With the realization of Boston’s Central Artery/Tunnel Project (CA/T), Massachusetts committed to construction of a network of pedestrian and bicycle paths and 80 hectares of new public spaces including the newly opened North Bank Bridge, the most recent addition to DCR’s Charles River Reservation, part of America’s first regional park system.

Through this park and bridge tour WTS-Boston guests will hear how numerous site constraints between the North Point and Paul Revere Parks created unique challenges for the Patrick Administration, MassDOT, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the community.  We will also hear how DCR plans to complete the final commitments that will provide family friendly pedestrian connections along the remaining portions along the Charles River Basin waterfront.

Introductions and an interagency overview will be provided by Pamela Stephenson, FHWA Division Administrator of the Massachusetts Division. Joseph Graham, Assistant Resident Engineer at Massachusetts Department of Transportation, will discuss the bridge construction process and finally Karl Haglund, Senior Regional Planner at DCR and Project Manager will close with remarks on how DCR will move forward.
