Committee Spotlight: Outreach

Do you have a passion for introducing girls to STEM and the transportation industry?  Do you enjoy working with students on fun challenges and engaging activities?  Do you love to tell your story to budding young scientists and engineers?  You would be a perfect fit for the Outreach Committee!

Volunteering for the Outreach Committee is a great way to have fun, make an impact, and shape the future of the transportation industry.

The Outreach Committee runs the Boston Chapter’s Transportation YOU program, the local branch of the partnership between WTS International and the US DOT to introduce high schools girls to careers in transportation.  The committee plans events, partnerships, and mentoring programs throughout the year to highlight the diversity of exciting opportunities for girls that transportation and STEM careers provide.  The program culminates with the participation of a mentoring pair in the National Transportation YOU Summit in Washington, DC.

The committee also participates in STEM events throughout the region by running booths and activities featuring a variety of fun and engaging transportation-related engineering activities.  The committee is responsible for oversight of the WTS student chapter at UMass Amherst and conducts outreach for WTS to other area colleges.

The committee has monthly lunch meetings (with pizza!) and gets together for biannual social gatherings. We’re a fun bunch who spends our time thinking of creative ways to get girls interested in STEM and transportation.  Join us for our next meeting by contacting Ali Love at Alison.love@stvinc.com or Katie Choe at Katie.choe@boston.gov

A special shout-out to our committed Outreach volunteers!
