The Washington, DC Chapter was founded in 1977 as the first organization in the area to help women in transportation increase their professional potential. The international organization formed from this chapter's efforts to expand beyond the Washington, DC area. The Chapter has functioned continuously since 1977, acting as historian to the international organization in its early years.
