2009 Scholarship Recipients

Jillian Edmiston is a graduate student at the California State University, San Bernardino and the winner of the WTS-IE Helene Overly Memorial Scholarship for 2009. She is working toward her doctorate in Public Administration, which she plans to apply to improving the quality of life through transportation. Jillian is a graduate student at UCSB, where she has been examining how transportation and advancement in transportation technology have quickened the pace of globalization.  Upon graduating, she plans to continue her career in the field of transportation as she feels “it has become increasingly obvious to me that changes in transportation design now will directly impact the continued viability and success of the Inland Empire later”. A Corona resident, Jillian also has served as a volunteer teaching assistant at UCSB and has earned a 3.7 grade point average in her graduate studies.  After winning the chapter-level Helene Overly Memorial Scholarship, Jillian will go on to compete for the international award.

Emily Harris is one of two recipients of the 2009 WTS-IE Susan Van Note Memorial Scholarship. A student at the University of Redlands, Emily is studying to receive a bachelor's of science degree in economics, and government.  Emily serves as a Peer Advisor at the university as well as served as Class Treasurer in Student Government. She has also served as a volunteer for Showcase Training Stables helping with the rehabilitation of injured horses as well as volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. She holds a 3.964 grade point average and lives in Redlands.

Heather Crews is the other recipient of the 2009 WTS-IE Susan Van Note Memorial Scholarship. She is working towards her Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the California Baptist University with a 3.51 grade point average. She serves as an Office of Enrollment Advisory Assistant. Heather has volunteered on many special projects with numerous Academic Advisors as well as the Director of Advising at Cal Baptist. Upon earning her Bachelor's degree Heather plans to immediately begin pursuing her career in transportation, being most interested in working with bridges, dams, and roads. She plans to work in the field of transportation because she feels “these areas are often overlooked, even though they are very important to society”. Heather is a resident of Riverside.
