WTS - SACRAMENTO SCHOLARSHIPS 2009-2010

 

 

Elaine Dezenski Legacy Graduate Scholarship ($1000)

In 2007 WTS launched the President's Legacy Scholarship. This "rotating" scholarship takes the name of the current WTS International President Elaine Dezenski who is serving from 2008 through 2010. A member of WTS since 1993, Elaine Dezenski has been honored to serve in numerous leadership positions at both the Chapter and International level within the organization, including President of the WTS Washington, DC chapter 1998-2000, WTS International Board Member (2002-2004), Treasurer (2004-2006), Vice President (2006-2008). Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($1000)

In memory of Helene M. Overly, the first Executive Secretary of WTS, the Board of Directors voted to name the annual WTS graduate scholarship, the Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship, to honor Helene for her dedicated service to WTS. Helene became a WTS member in 1981. She brought with her 15 years of experience in public service, tremendous organizational abilities, and a spirit of determination that helped WTS nearly double its membership in two years. For information on application requirements and procedures, DOWNLOAD APPLICATION.

Molitoris Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship ($1000)

The purpose of the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is to motivate and reward women who demonstrate leadership in the transportation industry. The leadership, skills and perspective of women are essential to assure that the transportation systems of the future respond to the needs of all. Leadership does not just happen. Leaders personally invest and risk much. They much take on struggles that many would avoid and persevere to reach successful outcomes. Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship ($1000)

This scholarship honors Sharon D. Banks, chief executive officer of AC Transit in Alameda-Contra Costa County, California. As CEO of most of the 1990's, Sharon led the agency in a pioneering effort to introduce cultural and organizational changes aimed at motivating the public transit work force. She was a member of the WTS Advisory Board and received the WTS San Francisco Chapter Women and Employer of the Year awards. Caltrans Transportation Planning High School Scholarship ($500)

The Caltrans Transportation Planning High School Scholarship is available to a female high school senior in the Sacramento Region who is inspired to pursue a college degree in a transportation planning related field, such as Urban or Regional Studies, Public Policy, Public Administration, Environmental Policy or Studies, Geography, Sociology, Political Science, Landscape Architect or Economics. For information on application requirements and procedures, DOWNLOAD APPLICATION.

Will Kempton High School Scholarship ($500)

The WTS-Sacramento Chapter Will Kempton High School Scholarship is available to a female high school senior in the Sacramento Region who is inspired to pursue a college degree in a transportation-related field, including studies in engineering, math, architecture, geography, business, law, political science, environmental science, English, planning, economics, sociology and government policy.  The scholarship is named for the current Director of the California Department of Transportation who serves as a strong advocate for WTS and the importance of education. For information on application requirements and procedures, DOWNLOAD APPLICATION.
