2009 Scholarship Nominations

Dear WTS Members, University Faculty, and Interested Parties:

WTS (Women’s Transportation Seminar) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships to qualified female students interested in pursuing careers in transportation.

WTS is a professional organization founded in 1977 to advance the success of women in transportation.  It started in Washington, D.C., and has since grown to become an international group with over 40 chapters in the US, Canada, and the UK.  WTS also has a brand-new chapter opening in Cleveland. 

Our Columbus WTS chapter offers three local (Ohio-based) scholarships. The winners will be also be forwarded to compete with other chapters’ winners for the WTS international-level scholarships.  We are also reviewing applications for the WTS President’s Legacy Scholarship – offering a single international prize of $3,000.  We invite all qualifying collegians majoring in a transportation-related field to apply. 

All applicants must be female, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and meet the following additional criteria:

·         Currently enrolled in a degree program in a transportation-related field such as engineering, aviation, planning , finance, public policy, and logistics)

·         Must be a resident of Ohio, or be currently enrolled in an Ohio college or university

·         Candidate must plan to pursue a career in transportation

The three scholarships are listed below, with additional information available for each scholarship in the enclosed application packet.  Minority candidates are encouraged to apply. 

Submittals are due no later than November 9, 2009.

Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship – open only to undergraduate women (local award $1,000, international award $3,000)

Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship – open only to graduate women (local award $1,500, international award $6,000)

Louise Moritz Molitoris Leadership Fund – open only to undergraduate women demonstrating leadership abilities (local award $1,200, international award $3,000)

WTS President’s Legacy Scholarship – open to graduate women who demonstrate leadership in bringing innovation and new approaches to global transportation challenges ($3,000 international award)
